Pioneering the Future of Global E-Commerce Logistics

At Amazon, our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Achieving this massive scale requires an unstoppable, highly synchronized "middle mile" logistics network that operates 7 days a week. The Amazon Freight Partner (AFP) program is the heavy-duty backbone of this supply chain, and our weekend operations are absolutely vital. We are actively seeking elite, safety-obsessed Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) professionals to pilot our state-of-the-art fleet exclusively on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. When you secure a weekend driving career within the Amazon network, you are partnering with an enterprise that values your time, invests heavily in cutting-edge vehicle safety telematics, and offers unmatched route stability. If you want a heavy-haul driving career that allows you to dominate the weekend while keeping your weekdays completely free, this is the premier destination in the transportation industry.

About the Role: The Backbone of the Weekend Middle Mile

As a Weekend CDL-A Truck Driver operating for an Amazon Freight Partner, you are the undisputed heavyweight champion of our logistics network during our busiest shipping days. You will be piloting brand-new, top-of-the-line Class 8 Day Cab tractors, hauling 53-foot dry van trailers exclusively between Amazon facilities on a strict weekend schedule. This is a dedicated "linehaul" role, meaning you will enjoy the absolute holy grail of the trucking industry: 100% no-touch, drop-and-hook freight. You will never be asked to manually load or unload a trailer. Your singular focus is safely moving trailers from Point A to Point B while the rest of the world rests. Most importantly, the AFP network is designed around regional and local routes, meaning you return home to your own bed at the end of every single weekend shift.

A Day in the Life of a Weekend Freight Driver

Your shift starts early Saturday morning at a secure Amazon designated truck yard. You clock in via your mobile device and locate your assigned, meticulously maintained Day Cab tractor. You conduct a rigorous, digital pre-trip inspection, checking air brakes, fifth-wheel locking jaws, and tire tread depth. Once cleared, you log into the Amazon Relay app, which serves as your digital dispatcher, GPS, and load manager. The app directs you to an Amazon Fulfillment Center just down the highway. Upon arrival, you proceed directly to your assigned parking slip. You drop your empty trailer, hook up to a fully loaded, pre-sealed 53-foot trailer, perform a tug test, and immediately hit the highway toward a Sortation Center 150 miles away. You spend your weekend shift cruising the open road, completely insulated from warehouse labor. After completing your round-trip route, you return the tractor to your home yard and head home to your family.

Comprehensive and Detailed Responsibilities

  • Weekend Commercial Vehicle Mastery: Safely operate a massive Class 8 commercial tractor-trailer combination in a wide variety of weekend traffic and highway conditions. You must maintain an uncompromising commitment to safety, utilizing advanced onboard driver-assist technologies (like forward-collision mitigation and lane-departure warnings).
  • Drop-and-Hook Operations: Execute flawless drop-and-hook procedures at highly active Amazon facilities. You must expertly back 53-foot trailers into tight staging slips and dock doors, properly secure landing gear, and manage gladhand air connections without causing equipment damage.
  • Regulatory DOT Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. You will maintain perfect electronic hours-of-service (HOS) logs and ensure your vehicle never exceeds gross weight limits during your weekend shifts.
  • Relay App Navigation: Utilize the proprietary Amazon Relay smartphone application to manage your entire itinerary. You will follow specific, truck-safe GPS routing, log gate arrival and departure times, and report any on-the-road delays.
  • Professional Communication: Act as a consummate professional when interacting with Amazon yard marshals, TOM team members, and security personnel, ensuring a frictionless flow of freight through the checkpoints.

What Our Drivers Say: Real Employee Perspectives

The trucking industry is notoriously grueling, but the Amazon Freight Partner weekend network is changing the narrative. A veteran CDL-A driver recently shared: "I drove over-the-road for years and never saw my family. Switching to a weekend-only schedule with an Amazon Freight Partner was life-changing. I drive a brand-new 2024 day cab on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is 100% drop-and-hook, so I never touch the freight, and I am paid by the hour, not by the mile. I work three long days, make a fantastic full-time equivalent paycheck, and then I have Monday through Thursday completely off to spend with my kids. It is the most respectful and lucrative weekend driving job in the industry."

Industry-Leading Total Rewards and Benefits

Amazon Freight Partners offer a compensation package designed to attract elite commercial drivers for weekend shifts:

  • Hourly Compensation & Weekend Premiums: You are paid a highly competitive, guaranteed hourly rate, meaning you are compensated fairly for every minute you are on duty, including traffic delays and pre-trip inspections. Weekend shifts often feature premium pay differentials.
  • Unrivaled Home Time & 4-Day Weekends: By working a condensed Friday-Sunday schedule, you enjoy a permanent 4-day weekend every single week, allowing for an incredible work-life balance.
  • Elite Equipment: Drive the newest, safest equipment on the road. The fleet consists of modern Day Cabs equipped with automatic transmissions, advanced telematics, comfortable air-ride seating, and climate control.
  • Comprehensive Health: Gain access to full medical, dental, and vision insurance packages, alongside paid time off (PTO) and 401(k) retirement matching programs.

Basic Qualifications and Physical Requirements

  • Must be strictly 21 years of age or older to operate a commercial motor vehicle across state lines.
  • Must possess a valid, active Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) with a pristine Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Must hold a current, valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Fed Med card) proving your physical fitness to drive.
  • Must be willing and able to commit to a strict weekend schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) on a permanent basis.
  • Must successfully pass a rigorous DOT-regulated drug screening and background check, and be registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
